Personality:
Defined:
- The sum total of way in which an individual reacts and interact with others.
- Measurable traits that a person exhibits.
- Rather than looking at part of the person, personality looks at some aggregate whole that is greater than the sum of the parts.

- Some people loud and aggressive
- Better adapted for certain jobs

- “The dynamic organization with in the individual of those psychological systems that determine his unique adjustment to his environment”
Personality Determinants: Heredity, Environment, Situation
Heredity: factors that were determined at conception (Conceived)
- Physical structure, facial attractiveness, gender, temperament, muscle, reflexes, energy, biological rhythms
- Completely or substantially influenced by who your parents are?
- The heredity approach argues that the ultimate explanation of an individual’s personality is molecular structure of the genes, located in chromosomes.
Environment:
- Culture in which we are raised.
- Our early conditioning
- Norms among our family, friends, and social group.
- North Indians: Aggressive, Industrious, competitive, ambitious, enterprising
- South Indians: preserve and devote themselves to classical arts, music, literature
Situation:
- Influence on environment and heredity effects
- Generally stable and consistence, but personality does changes according to demand of situations
- Temple, job interview: Constrain many behavior
- Picnic in Public Park: constrain few behaviors.
